Film “The Master’s Hands”
Last fall of 2014, Cowichan Valley Art Council and I invited a Japanese woodblock dyeing artist, Tetsuo Koyama to whom I was apprenticed for two years to learn his woodblock print dyeing method in Japan. He came to Canada and taught his woodblock print dyeing on Vancouver Island. The workshop was documented in a film, ‘The Master’s Hands’ by a film artist, Phil Ives. Tetsuo left Japan for the first time in his 81 years of his life and shared the joy of creating art with one’s own hands. Please click and watch the film!
